College Coaching for Student-Athletes
Morzep college coaches are aware student-athletes share the same concerns as most students who apply for college. However, we also know that they need to play by different rules when it comes to certain aspects of their college applications.
While the process is not significantly different from the course of action most students need to follow to get into their dream colleges, the aspects that differ are crucial for a successful college application.
HOW DOES THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS DIFFER FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES?
The academic preparation requirements include both high school graduation and the national athletic association requirements. Students who want to play a sport in college and get scholarships based on their athletic ability need to be up to date with the requirements provided by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
NCAA divides its member schools into three divisions: Division I, Division II, and Division III. The student’s eligibility for one of the divisions depends on the school size, funding for athletics, campus experience for athletes, and availability of athletic scholarships.
Students should familiarize themselves with the academic eligibility requirements and admission criteria for each division and prepare accordingly. However, they should also understand that simply meeting NCAA academic requirements may not be enough to get into the college of their dreams.
WE CAN PROUDLY SAY THAT WE CUSTOMIZE OUR PLANS TO THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF EACH OF OUR SCHOLARS!
HOW CAN MORZEP COLLEGE COACHES HELP STUDENT-ATHLETES?
Our college counselors know that student-athletes usually have a support team in place when they are preparing to achieve their academic goals. Their education plans are often influenced by their high school coach and parents.
However, their expertise may not be enough for a successful application for athletic programs in colleges.
Morzep college coaches can help them overcome any obstacles and gaps that come between them and getting into college. Here is how your college coach can help:
- Understand the NCAA guidelines and requirements
- Select core courses to meet the NCAA eligibility requirements
- Find materials and tutors to raise your core courses’ GPAs
- Get ready for SAT/ACTs and choose the best test dates for you
- Understand your college options and start your college search early
- Write an original college essay
- Prepare admissions materials to send your college application
- Fill out prospectus forms early on
- Contact coaches and current players to discuss your interest
- Prepare material to send to coaches in the desired college
WHAT SHOULD STUDENT-ATHLETES KEEP IN MIND?
Despite their talent for sports, student-athletes need to remember that all grades matter in high school, and their academic record has to reflect their dedication and work ethic. Even when applying for community colleges! College recruiters may be focusing on the student’s talent for a certain sport, but college admissions officers don’t cut corners when it comes to the application process. A college coach can’t pull any strings with the admissions officers.
When you work with a Morzep college counselor, you will have access to a strict plan meant to simplify your application process. You will be encouraged to take your first standardized test as early as your sophomore year based on properly selected coursework.
