WHEN SHOULD STUDENTS START TO PREP FOR STANDARDIZED TESTS?
Younger children benefit greatly from an early study plan to help them achieve college readiness without any extra pressure added by tight deadlines and tough last-minute decisions.
Our advice is simple: the earlier you begin to study and prepare for standardized tests, the higher the likelihood that you will improve your score. However, there is one important thing you need to remember: high test scores play an important part in the college admissions process, but they will not make up for poor grades obtained in high school.
The same applies to high grades that can’t compensate for disappointing test scores. In addition to this, other important facets of preparation for the college admissions process include impeccable admission essays and a careful plan for meaningful extracurricular activities, both in school and around your community; fortunately, Morzep coaches will work with you to build a strong, well-rounded college application.
WE CAN PROUDLY SAY THAT WE CUSTOMIZE OUR PLANS TO THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF EACH OF OUR SCHOLARS!
WHAT STANDARDIZED TESTS MATTER MOST TO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES?
The most popular standardized tests are the SAT and ACT. We discovered that the first thing students want to know when choosing their test is which of the two is the easiest. We usually disappoint them with our answer: neither is easier. Both are equally demanding and require ample prep time.
The perfect SAT score is 1600, while the average score is 1068, so a great score will depend on your college profile, but definitely the higher the better. When it comes to the ACT scores, the average is 21 and a perfect score is 36. The SAT has three sections: Reading, Writing & Language, and Math, and the ACT focuses on English, Math, Reading, and Science. The SATs test your vocabulary, while the ACT insists more on your scientific reasoning skills and allows you more time to answer each question. However, neither is easy and the test content is similar for both
If you want to take the PSAT/NMSQT test (Preliminary SAT exam) or PLAN (Preliminary ACT exam) to assess your knowledge and maybe even qualify for scholarship programs, you should schedule your practice tests as early as possible. Make sure to speak with your school counselor and get registered for preliminary tests since 9th grade and secure at least 3 preliminary tests before your first official SAT or ACT test by the end of your junior year. Keep in mind that Colleges also accept high scores on AP exams that will be considered for earned college credits.
